D'. G'. ROSA. SINE. SPINA., rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, Scottish arms feature once to 2nd quarter, legend and beaded borders surrounding, initial mark thistle, TVEATVR. VNITA. DEVS., 1.26g (Stewart 1967, fig. 210; SCBI 71, 1366; S.5469). Lightly toned with wear to higher points of legend, very fine, reverse better, very rare.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "James by the grace of God, a rose without a thorn" and on the reverse "May God guard these united."
