Edward IV (2nd Reign, 1471-1483) gold Angel ND (1471-1483) AU Details (Edge Filing) NGC, Tower mint, Heraldic Cinquefoil mm, 4.97gm, S-2091, N-1626. St. Michael spearing dragon / A ship at sea, an "Є" and rose to either side of masthead. A splendid specimen of this popular denomination, first struck during Edward's reign and continuing beyond the medieval up until the reign of Queen Anne in 1714 (in the form of a touch-piece). An antiqued golden tone congregates to the crevices, accentuating the raised motifs. The cause of the grade modifier is limited in extent at around 10 o'clock and does little to detract from visual enjoyment of this handsome piece.
